Special Guest: Kelly Ragland, with A Stitch On Time (Rags)
Moderator: Alan
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:12:39 PM)
Welcome to tonight's special event.
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:12:47 PM)
Tonight we are going to discuss:
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:12:54 PM)
The Who, What, When, Where, Why and How of "Digitizing Olympics"
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:13:17 PM)
Our guest tonight is Kelly Ragland, with A Stitch On Time
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:13:22 PM)
Most of us know him as "Rags"
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:13:28 PM)
Tonight's special event will start with a 30 minute interview, then we will open it up for questions from the audience for the second half hour.
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:13:34 PM)
Throughout the event all questions submitted go to an off screen moderator, to allow for grouping of questions.
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:13:42 PM)
Rags, before we get started, why don't you tell us a little bit of your embroidery background
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:13:49 PM)
OK
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:13:56 PM)
floor is all yours
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:14:02 PM)
I started in January 96 as a single head shop
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:14:22 PM)
wanted to learn all about digitizing and knew I needed the embroidery experience first
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:14:43 PM)
once I felt comfortable in my abilities I went to digitizing full time
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:14:53 PM)
and have been ever since
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:15:03 PM)
do you do any embroidery work anymore?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:15:10 PM)
No
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:15:13 PM)
I still sew
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:15:19 PM)
not orders though
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:16:25 PM)
embroidery was killing me ;^)
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:16:33 PM)
too much to handle
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:16:36 PM)
Okay what made you come up with the notion of "Digitizing Olympics"
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:16:49 PM)
As an independent digitizer since 1996 I have seen the rise and fall of quality embroidery many times throughout the years.
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:17:01 PM)
Recently digitizers have been almost run completely out of business due to overseas pricing, extremely low stock design prices in the market, and design piracy/sharing throughout the on line community.
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:17:13 PM)
I also have seen the need for embroiderers to develop better resources for finding digitizers and designers that suit their business needs, as well as educate themselves in the difference between good and great embroidery designs.
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:17:24 PM)
All that said, the Digitizing Olympics were born.
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:18:10 PM)
So where do you begin if someone wants to participate?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:18:25 PM)
You can register now at the web site
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:18:29 PM)
http://www.DigitizingOlympics.com
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:18:31 PM)
as a judge or a digitizer
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:18:40 PM)
The info is posted in real time
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:18:50 PM)
we need judges
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:19:05 PM)
qualified embroiderers willing to critique designs
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:19:21 PM)
what type of time commitment do you expect?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:19:45 PM)
I really havent had enough time to make a guestimate, but..
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:19:56 PM)
the initial interest looks pretty good
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:20:04 PM)
So far we have about a dozen registered digitizers representing the USA, Canada, South Africa and India!
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:20:21 PM)
that is fantastic
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:20:28 PM)
I am excited
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:20:42 PM)
I need artists too, I want to participate ;^)
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:20:55 PM)
It would be unfair me creating the art and digitizing as well
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:21:01 PM)
true
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:21:26 PM)
Can you summarize the overall plan of how it will work?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:21:44 PM)
It is set up as a real business scenario so to speak
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:21:54 PM)
Artwork will be made available at a specific time for each event. It is the Digitizer's responsibility to download, review and begin Digitizing according to the event schedule. A reminder e-mail will go out to them of course.
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:22:05 PM)
There will be a 3 business day deadline for the submission of completed designs. Sound familiar? That is the going turnaround time most digitizers are promising. Late entries will result in a penalty. Submitted designs will then be made available for download by the registered judges.
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:22:21 PM)
Judges will be allowed 5 business days to download, sew and review the designs submitted. An on line form will be available to submit thier final judgement and critique which will post in real time on the web site. Medalists will be posted on the medalists page along with their winning design, again available for download as a stock design and a reference to that digitizers work.
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:22:43 PM)
This will generate a great collection of designs and examples over time
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:22:56 PM)
and promote quality designs and digitizers
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:23:03 PM)
will all the entries be posted? or just the medalists?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:23:03 PM)
everybody wins
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:23:35 PM)
All will be posted, medalists are listed on the medalists page of the site along with their winning designs
Tara (Oct 2, 2001 10:23:45 PM)
How long will the "games" last?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:24:16 PM)
Preliminary events will be mointhly from November to July of next year, all on line
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:24:23 PM)
Events include...
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:24:33 PM)
Small Lettering
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:24:38 PM)
Cap Detail and Registration
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:24:44 PM)
Jacket Back
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:24:49 PM)
Applique
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:24:55 PM)
Shading and Blending
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:25:05 PM)
and more....
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:25:09 PM)
then....
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:25:31 PM)
Ther finals will be live in Opryland with the Embroidery Olympics
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:25:39 PM)
You can still participate online
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:25:46 PM)
if you cant make the show
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:26:05 PM)
and I will be having the event at the site via web cam
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:26:35 PM)
Whew.... you will be a busy beaver for sure at the show.
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:26:52 PM)
When does it all start
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:27:06 PM)
Yep, I will have a single head Tajima and techs from SewTech maintaining its runnability
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:27:22 PM)
for running the final designs
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:27:40 PM)
Registration starts now, and you may register at any time
BayDog (Oct 2, 2001 10:27:49 PM)
Are there going to be divisions within each event as well, novice, experienced, etc?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:27:53 PM)
you can participate in as many or few events as you like
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:28:21 PM)
Each digitizer has their own web page, created when they register
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:28:38 PM)
It says how long they have been digitizing, so that casn be taken into consideration
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:28:48 PM)
but the events will not be seperated as of yet
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:28:49 PM)
So the web part is key to the event then
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:29:09 PM)
Yes, the events are all on line and scheduled there
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:29:26 PM)
until the finals which are on line and live
Nick (Oct 2, 2001 10:29:58 PM)
Are you out if you don't have a web page?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:30:03 PM)
No
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:30:12 PM)
If you have a page, it is linked
Bonnie (Oct 2, 2001 10:30:30 PM)
Hi!Came in late - is this at YOUR site Rags?
Tara (ID=4) (Oct 2, 2001 10:30:34 PM)
Are results of the games being published any where else besides online? e.g. Stitches or EMB...?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:30:36 PM)
if not your e-mail is linked, and you have your olympian page at the olympics site
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:30:52 PM)
I built it Moonlight ;^)
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:31:03 PM)
Kind of a brainstorm huh
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:31:12 PM)
scary at times
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:31:27 PM)
Im wearing a helmet
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:31:50 PM)
I feel like this concept will bring embroiderers and digitizers together to achieve great results from digitizing, embroidery and business relations that are made as a result. I brought this web site to the on line community and the embroidery industry out of the passion I have for embroidery, and the needs I share with others to bring the value of embroidery back up to where we as professionals feel it should be.
BayDog (Oct 2, 2001 10:31:50 PM)
I think it is a great idea
JJ (Oct 2, 2001 10:32:00 PM)
are the Olympics open to both commercial and home embroiderers?
Bonnie (Oct 2, 2001 10:32:14 PM)
I'll be lookin' into it. :-)
JJ (Oct 2, 2001 10:32:18 PM)
what embroidery format needs to be submitted? (.dst for example?)
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:32:22 PM)
Yes, everyone can participate that has the experience
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:32:49 PM)
I am asking for .DST, if necessary I can convert the files for you
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:33:19 PM)
I want to help anyone that wants to participate and show the world their abilities
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:33:32 PM)
I have great confidence in this web site and its direction. I feel it will benefit digitizers and embroiderers alike, and possibly bring quality embroidery back to a higher level.
JJ (Oct 2, 2001 10:34:04 PM)
is this only open to established digitizers, or can people who are trying to get into the digitizing business someday?
Image (Oct 2, 2001 10:34:36 PM)
Is the judges' comments posted along the submitted design?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:34:39 PM)
Its all about whether or not you want to be an olympian. I have had e-mails from digitizers with only one year experience
Nick (Oct 2, 2001 10:34:05 PM)
I also came in late, have you given the web site?
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:34:46 PM)
http://www.DigitizingOlympics.com
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:34:54 PM)
I encourage them to sign on and learn from experience
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:35:11 PM)
Yes, and annonymously on the judging
Patty (Oct 2, 2001 10:35:17 PM)
I came in late too. Sorry. How can the non digitizer become involved?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:35:25 PM)
I will moderate the language, I know y'all ;^)
Bonnie (ID=12) (Oct 2, 2001 10:35:33 PM)
Thanks Alan - that's what I wanted ... Rags has built more than one site. ;-) lol
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:35:46 PM)
Registration is live now at http://www.digitizingolympics.com
JJ (Oct 2, 2001 10:35:53 PM)
what will the finals be judging? All the medal winners from the various events in a final event with a final design?
Erich_In_ABQ (Oct 2, 2001 10:36:23 PM)
From one digitizer with a passion for the art to another, I just want to thank you for this forum.
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:36:24 PM)
The finalists will be voted for by the embroidery public after the preliminarys
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:36:34 PM)
they may not necessarily be medalists
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:36:44 PM)
as some may participate in more events than others
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:37:07 PM)
we will let the embroideres choose the finalists on their abilities and talents alone
BayDog (Oct 2, 2001 10:37:15 PM)
so you will be posting all the submitted designs and not just those that win?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:37:44 PM)
correct, however the winning designs will be highlighted as medal winning ones
JJ (Oct 2, 2001 10:37:49 PM)
is the final judging based on look or sewability or both?
Patty (Oct 2, 2001 10:37:59 PM)
will we be able to sew them out before judging?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:38:04 PM)
not all designs are alike, and not all embroideres opinions are either right?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:38:14 PM)
Some may like one design better than another
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:38:28 PM)
and choose that digitizers style for their next project
Tara (Oct 2, 2001 10:38:38 PM)
Are desings to be evaluated from a production standpoint, as well as an asthetic standpoint?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:38:42 PM)
even though it may not have won a medal
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:38:46 PM)
with me?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:38:52 PM)
Yes
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:39:01 PM)
runability, pathing
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:39:09 PM)
underlay, registration
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:39:13 PM)
they all come into play
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:39:32 PM)
artwork and substrate will be very specific all the way down to backing
BayDog (Oct 2, 2001 10:39:52 PM)
how many on th judging panel?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:39:55 PM)
to assure consistancy
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:40:00 PM)
across the judges
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:40:08 PM)
so far two!
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:40:24 PM)
Get involved embroiderers, this site is for you too ;^)
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:41:07 PM)
We have about a dozen digitizers so far
Patty (Oct 2, 2001 10:41:07 PM)
how do we get involved as embroiderers?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:41:19 PM)
You can participate as a judge
Tara (Oct 2, 2001 10:41:21 PM)
So an inexperienced digitizer, can be a judge...
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:41:35 PM)
you download the designs, run them, and return to the site to critique them
Bonnie (Oct 2, 2001 10:41:50 PM)
Does registration need to be done now or when is the deadline?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:42:19 PM)
this will keep the flow of the olympics going, and as time goes on create quite a stock design collection for embroiderers to use
Patty (ID=16) (Oct 2, 2001 10:42:36 PM)
there will be one a month right from however many digitizers sign up?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:42:36 PM)
You can register at any time Bonnie
Patty (Oct 2, 2001 10:42:49 PM)
do you have to be at the final show to be a judge?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:42:54 PM)
Yes, a digitizer can judge, but not in an event they are in
BayDog (Oct 2, 2001 10:43:03 PM)
Is there a registration fee?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:43:11 PM)
for the finals I will have judges on site
Patty (Oct 2, 2001 10:43:23 PM)
so we will be able to use the designs also?
CM (Oct 2, 2001 10:43:26 PM)
Will the stock designs be free to others?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:43:33 PM)
The SewTech crew will be assisting me with the equipment to assure tensions and runability of the machine
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:43:42 PM)
and I would like to recruit judges on site
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:43:51 PM)
no registration fee
Tara (Oct 2, 2001 10:43:55 PM)
What sorts of designs are planned? Are they all 'logo type.'
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:44:04 PM)
and the designs wioll be downl;oadable for you to use
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:44:19 PM)
and for you to remember who sis them in case you need some work done
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:44:43 PM)
did
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:44:45 PM)
;^)
Patty (Oct 2, 2001 10:44:49 PM)
will there be any jacket back?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:45:03 PM)
Yes, I think that one is the February event
Patty (Oct 2, 2001 10:45:53 PM)
If you are a judge would you have to judge all?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:46:27 PM)
hopefully only the ones you wish to, right now with only two judges that might be a different story
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:46:42 PM)
I have a feeling by November there will be enough judges ;^)
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:46:52 PM)
this just got started
Patty (Oct 2, 2001 10:46:53 PM)
I think so too
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:47:04 PM)
so it is getting going as word gets around
Bonnie (Oct 2, 2001 10:47:23 PM)
I just may have to play this "game" - sounds fun.
BayDog (Oct 2, 2001 10:47:30 PM)
Will the judges know who the designs are from before they judge them?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:47:41 PM)
Id love to see you on the list Bonnie, animal fur is an event
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:47:50 PM)
yes
Tara (Oct 2, 2001 10:47:58 PM)
Do judges have to be present at the final event?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:48:16 PM)
I am going to recruit judges that are at the event
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:48:48 PM)
the preliminary ones I need the on line judging
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:48:58 PM)
and it benefits you as an embroiderer
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:49:09 PM)
to see digitizing techniques done differently
Bonnie (Oct 2, 2001 10:49:15 PM)
OOO--animal fur in 3 days? Possible, but will need Excedrin
BayDog (Oct 2, 2001 10:49:21 PM)
When is the event at Opryland?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:49:22 PM)
and expand your resources for digitizing
BayDog (ID=15) (Oct 2, 2001 10:49:27 PM)
Sure thing Bonnie
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:49:37 PM)
August 2,2002
you (Oct 2, 2001 10:49:43 PM)
why will judges know who the design is from before they judge them?
BayDog (ID=15) (Oct 2, 2001 10:49:55 PM)
Better mark my calendar now!
Tara (Oct 2, 2001 10:50:08 PM)
So, you can judge the prelims but finals you need to be there.
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:50:37 PM)
The design will not have a name on it, you wont know who did it until judging is final
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:51:24 PM)
Yes, the designs will be online for you as well, and I guess if you want to judge I can work with that. I didnt expect many to volunteer for the finals
CM (Oct 2, 2001 10:51:47 PM)
What are the prizes for the winners?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:52:05 PM)
I am open to suggestions, this is sort of in its infancy this first year
JJ (Oct 2, 2001 10:52:12 PM)
will medal winners actually get a medal?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:52:28 PM)
I am printing certificates for now and searching for a sponsor to produce medals
Image (Oct 2, 2001 10:52:31 PM)
Is the software used be listed along with the design?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:52:47 PM)
No, I didnt want to get software specific
BayDog (Oct 2, 2001 10:52:52 PM)
chocolate medallions
Tara (Oct 2, 2001 10:52:59 PM)
Are there specific categories for digitizing for difficult fabrics? e.g. courds or pique?
Bonnie (Oct 2, 2001 10:53:03 PM)
Seems the exposure alone is a prize, mho
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:53:16 PM)
That will be a factor in events yes
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:54:02 PM)
Right Bonnie, I think the digitizers can get their names and talents out there, and embroiderers can benefit by having a place to find them
Tara (Oct 2, 2001 10:54:25 PM)
Sounds like a neat event...
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:54:28 PM)
In the next few weeks we are going to have a special event chat on "Embroidery Olympics" which will be the ultimate Grand Challenge of them all, which will also be at the OpryLand hotel the same day... The two events will be featured together. Definitely mark your calendars for this one!
Budda (Oct 2, 2001 10:54:42 PM)
What are the events Rags
CM (Oct 2, 2001 10:54:50 PM)
It seems to me exposure is a prize but the prize draws more attention.
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:54:54 PM)
Small Lettering
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:54:59 PM)
Cap Detail and Registration
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:55:04 PM)
Jacket Back
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:55:10 PM)
Applique
Shading and Blending
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:55:21 PM)
Digitizing from Photography
Animal/Fur Design Rendering
3D Foam Design
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:55:35 PM)
Right now we have over $20,000 in prizes for the Embroidery Olympics, so we might start to spill over with money and prizes for the Digitizing Olympics as well.
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:55:41 PM)
why not list what software was used? What if embroiderers want a digitizer that uses a specific software (for editing purposes)?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:56:14 PM)
That is hard to explain
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:56:33 PM)
after the event, theres no problem with software discussion
Tara (Oct 2, 2001 10:56:53 PM)
Do jacket back and fur and/or photography have longer than a 3 day turn around?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:57:04 PM)
I didnt want the web site to get any heat from software distributors, or create a site that could start getting software specific
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:57:18 PM)
It is the talents we are after first
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 10:57:41 PM)
Rags is trying to stay politically correct, and off the hot seat as long as possible.
BayDog (Oct 2, 2001 10:57:49 PM)
Software discussions will occur when someone finds a digitizer whose style they like.
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:57:54 PM)
I will not create anything that cant be handled in the three days, although I was going to change the jacket back to five days
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:58:48 PM)
So far I am the only one creating the art, so I will be able to tell if it is getting too challenging. I want to keep things fair
Tara (Oct 2, 2001 10:59:09 PM)
Photo and fur can be pretty intense...
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:59:12 PM)
especially knowing the different levels of experience between olympians
BayDog (Oct 2, 2001 10:59:21 PM)
The artwork will have some basic guidelines to follow won't it?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:59:26 PM)
especially using a flash
JJ (Oct 2, 2001 10:59:33 PM)
Can companies enter, or just individuals? Can there be teams of digitizers?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 10:59:48 PM)
The artwork will be rendered by the digitizer in their own way
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 11:00:02 PM)
they will be told what material it is for, the size specifics and colors
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 11:00:18 PM)
then the judges can take that information and treat it as if it were an order
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 11:00:26 PM)
sew it out and judge the results
BayDog (Oct 2, 2001 11:00:30 PM)
pretty much the same if it were coming from a client then.
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 11:00:36 PM)
exactly
Tara (Oct 2, 2001 11:00:43 PM)
Are thread colors called out?
BayDog (Oct 2, 2001 11:00:51 PM)
I'm excited!!!
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 11:00:51 PM)
The embroidery Olympics have teams of three
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 11:01:07 PM)
If you would like a team event, we can schedule one
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 11:01:42 PM)
You will have color artwork, and the digitizer will submit the color order
CM (Oct 2, 2001 11:01:45 PM)
This is very exciting. You can count me in
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 11:01:47 PM)
per design
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 11:01:56 PM)
some may do one area before another right?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 11:02:03 PM)
They could all be different
Erich_In_ABQ (Oct 2, 2001 11:02:06 PM)
What format will the art be offered in?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 11:02:28 PM)
I will zip it up in JPG, GIF, TIF and BMP
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 11:02:36 PM)
in color
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 11:02:45 PM)
and sized correctly
Patty (Oct 2, 2001 11:02:46 PM)
sounds like a good way to pick digitizers for projects
BayDog (Oct 2, 2001 11:02:50 PM)
hopefully something with a high dpi so it is nice and sharp
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 11:03:01 PM)
we should have a "terrible faxed artwork" evvent too
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 11:03:10 PM)
but that might be dowen the road
JJ (Oct 2, 2001 11:03:11 PM)
or could we also have it in a vector format?
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 11:03:18 PM)
CDR?
BayDog (Oct 2, 2001 11:03:23 PM)
that would be fun
Janel (Oct 2, 2001 11:03:33 PM)
let's not !
Erich_In_ABQ (Oct 2, 2001 11:03:37 PM)
Absolutely! Along with a "postage stamp" artwork competition!
JJ (Oct 2, 2001 11:03:45 PM)
yes, or ai, eps
Tara (Oct 2, 2001 11:04:08 PM)
Will colors be defined by pantone or by mfg thread color?
BayDog (Oct 2, 2001 11:04:17 PM)
just kidding Janel we all deal with bad faxed artwork that is a headache
you (Oct 2, 2001 11:04:29 PM)
why not send a photocopy of existing embroidery as most os get to work from as artwork
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 11:04:31 PM)
I think we should stay with the graphics, not everyone gets vector art every time and I think we should stay on a level that is equal across the board
Janel (Oct 2, 2001 11:04:43 PM)
yep, we deal with that enough :)
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 11:04:53 PM)
the art will be nice enough already compared to what customers generally bring in
BayDog (Oct 2, 2001 11:05:13 PM)
I like digitizing from artwork on a golf ball myself
JJ (Oct 2, 2001 11:05:22 PM)
better than a scanned image off a business card? yeah!
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 11:05:34 PM)
That could be an event too. I have a suggestion form at the site, and welcome suggestions and ideas.
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 11:05:54 PM)
Howabout the ole sketch on a paper napkin?
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 11:05:57 PM)
Oh, your asking for it now big boy!
Erich_In_ABQ (Oct 2, 2001 11:06:16 PM)
I got three of those cocktail napkins just today--
BayDog (Oct 2, 2001 11:06:19 PM)
yeah that's a favorite as well
you (Oct 2, 2001 11:07:00 PM)
at least you can keep the cocktail napkin customers happy
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 11:07:00 PM)
Im glad to see the excitement, I have a feeling this will be fun for everyone, as well as educational, and beneficiual to the industry
Tara (Oct 2, 2001 11:07:24 PM)
What's the site again?
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 11:07:33 PM)

Bonnie (Oct 2, 2001 11:07:51 PM)
Yes, I feel it will be a great way for embroiderers to find the right digitizer for the right project.
Alan (Oct 2, 2001 11:08:17 PM)
Well I don't know about you, but that was just about the fastest hour in history... super event Rags!
Rags (Oct 2, 2001 11:08:30 PM)
Thanks for having me!
Erich_In_ABQ (Oct 2, 2001 11:08:33 PM)
Three cheers for the Olympics!
JJ (Oct 2, 2001 11:08:34 PM)
thanks Rags.
Tara (Oct 2, 2001 11:08:44 PM)
I hope that we can determine who excels at ...small letters.. jacket backs, etc.
Bonnie (Oct 2, 2001 11:08:48 PM)
Glad I stopped in, but must go now -- you'll be hearin' from me! Bye all!
